You Are Not Alone: How the new short film “6:22” is shining a light on the invisible struggle faced by so many.
Nearly every day, you cross paths with someone who is at their lowest moments, but you’ll never know it. While presenting a brave face to the outside world, they mask a seemingly inescapable darkness within. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, there were an estimated 1.38 million suicide attempts in 2019. Of those, more than 47,000 succeeded.

For Jeff Hunt, Success is About Passion, Purpose, and People
He has been an aircraft mechanic, owned a sportswear and a screen-printing business, and lived all over the Carolinas before making his dream move to Hilton Head Island in 2006. But real estate has always been in Jeff Hunt’s life. He learned at an early age the power of owning the keys to a home.
Bachelors and Bachelorettes: Where are they now?
As we hear up to bring back CH2’s Bachelor of the Year contest and party in 2022, our thoughts wandered to our past candidates. So, for this February month of LOVE, we figured we would check in on some of our former Bachelor & Bachelorettes, to see how they found “their lobster,” (this is a Friends reference for the pop-culture deficient) when they knew she was “the one,” and what they think they key to a happy marriage is.
Matt Stock: Everyone’s Favorite Island Grinder Gets His Moment
The title of Matt Stock’s upcoming comedy shows at The Roasting Room is as soaked in irony as his undershirt is soaked in sweat after one of his countless, beloved holiday Santa Claus appearances. As much as he doesn’t want to jinx it by stating it aloud, things are pretty alright these days now for Hilton Head Island’s unofficial spirit animal.
For Marc Orlando, Rebirth is the Master Plan Behind His Return
Many of his peers saw the move as inevitable, but for a guy who has made a career out of high-level planning and thinking five steps ahead, Marc Orlando truly...

Built Right Homes: The custom lifestyle builder that builds it right the first time
Kevin and Lisa Lapinski, owners of Built Right Homes, came to the Lowcountry in 2007 with a long-term goal of owning and operating their own business building custom homes. However, that long-term goal quickly evolved into a short-term reality as the couple opened Built Right Homes in December of 2008.
With a Straight Face: Jim and Meredith Bannon bring their lighthearted approach to the serious business of the law.
If you’ve ever been on the megapopular website Reddit, you know that Redditors, as they are called, love to disagree on things. You can post something as innocuous as a picture of a piece of bread nailed to a tree (and someone has) and expect a full-blown brouhaha to break out. Which is what makes it so weird when they all find something they agree on.
The True Spirit of the Community
Let it never be said that the Lowcountry doesn’t know how to give back. Ours is a community built on a spirit of volunteerism, where any need that needs filled will soon find itself with a small army of helpers at their disposal. When we set out to spotlight a few of the legion of selfless locals who call our area home, we knew the hardest job would be in limiting our search. While the volunteers you see here are to be lauded for their generosity and spirit, know that for every face you see here, there are hundreds more ready to make life a little better in our community.
Ready to Serve: Every table is a new adventure for the island’s most elite waiters and waitresses.
When you have a place like the Lowcountry, a place where hospitality is the driving force behind everything, your servers are everything. They will form a visitor’s first impression, setting the tone for an entire vacation and playing a key role in the decision to return. They were our frontline workers long before anyone had heard of COVID, and as we emerged into this uncertain new normal, they have become an even more vital part of our community. Which is why we, as a society, have started making sure we tip just a little bit more than we would have pre-pandemic (and if you’re not, you absolutely should). It’s also why we have chosen to celebrate some of the Lowcountry’s best and brightest servers here.

48 Hours
With an island destination as popular has Hilton Head Island is, inevitably you get people visiting it in a variety of ways. Most commonly are families, who load up their minivans somewhere significantly north of here and make their way down for a Saturday check in. Any number of restaurant owners can set their calendars by their arrivals. Oh, June 22? The Callahan family from Santa Claus, Indiana will be here for dinner. Party of five. Dad will have the prime rib. Count on it.
Six Chefs, Six Journeys to Living a Dream
They are the architects and maestros behind some of the most beloved eateries in the Lowcountry. They usually talk with their taste buds, but we got some of your favorite chefs to step out of the kitchen and tell the story of why they love what they do.
A Summer Wind for All Seasons
Their new Beaufort enclave features more amenities than traditional neighboring waterfront homes: indoor hydrotherapy pool and hot tub; fully equipped fitness center; golf simulator, golf workshop and putting green; stylish state-of-the-art billiard room. And yes, even their own signature “Pelican Bar.” John and Lisa Cregan dreamed big when they decided to build in coastal South Carolina. It all began on the golf course.

For this month’s fashion feature, we decided to hop in the car and head down the mostly untraveled roads of South Carolina in search of interesting backdrops. When was the last time you just got in the car and went on a drive for the pure joy of exploring small towns and places you’ve never been before?
Gaurdians of the Shore: Meet the men and women who make sure every day at the beach is… well, a day at the beach.
NOT All heroes wear capes. Some wear SPF-40, sunglasses, and a smart-looking red swimsuit and carry a rescue can. And sadly,it can be easy to forget these heroes are even there. The biggest disaster we’ll usually ever face during a beach day is a sunburn or a punctured football. However, “usually” doesn’t mean “ever.”
Pretty Darn Gets “Casual”: Behind the scenes of a cinematic showcase of island talent
Were it not for the cameras, it could be mistaken for any other night on Hilton Head Island. While locals and tourists milled about the long dock at the end of Simmons Road, drinks from Up the Creek Pub in hand, the first tendrils of sunset streaked pink against the sky’s lustrous orange tint. Broad Creek sparkled in its brilliance. A heron warily eyed the outgoing tide, preying on the minnows that darted between waves.

Harbourfest 2021: The Return was Legendary
It is a three-decade-long-and-running tradition, the most popular multi-week summer event on Hilton Head Island. Named a “Top 20 Event” by the Southeastern Tourism Society and a “Best of Southern Fests” by South Magazine, generations of families continue to plan vacations around it.
8 Faces of Summer Fun
Of course, you came to Hilton Head Island for the beach and maybe golf, tennis or pickleball. But what else is there to do? Plenty! Whether it’s tooling around town on a bike, flying through the trees on a zipline, racing a go-kart, reeling in your supper, dolphin watching, kayaking, paddle boarding, playing putt-putt golf, or riding a horse … beyond the beach, a colossal outdoor playground awaits.

Meet the Turtle Trackers

Meet the Media: More than Just Talking Heads
In print, online and in living color, these are the media movers and shakers who keep the Lowcountry informed and entertained.
You invite them into your homes every day. You see their names on a byline or on a chyron running across the bottom of your TV screen, or hear them on your radio. But how well do you really know them? After all, by the nature of their job, they tend to take second billing to the story they’re trying to tell. Who they are is, by design, secondary to what they have to say.
If only for this month, we’re making the medium the message. These are the journalists and personalities who keep you in the loop on Lowcountry happenings big and small. In an era where the media has gotten a bad rap, it seems the perfect time for you to get to know our local media a little better.
