You probably don’t need to be told this, but the Lowcountry is one of those golf destinations people all over the world plan their trips to all year long. We are a true destination, attracting golfers from all over the world who are drawn by our famed designs, blissful climate, and handicap-challenging layouts.

But there’s a whole world of golf out there. And now, those of us who enjoy the embarrassment of riches we have here will get a chance to bid on some amazing getaways. Running from August 27 through September 10, the First Tee – The Lowcountry’s Champions Tournament Auction gives you a chance to bid on rounds at far-flung courses like The Country Club of Naples, Aronimink Golf Club, Sweetens Cove Golf Club, The Greenbrier, and a host of Ireland’s finest in an Emerald Fairway Experience.

The First Tee – The Lowcountry’s Champions Tournament Auction gives you a chance to bid on two nights at Montage Laguna Beach.

There will also be a two-night stay in Las Vegas with tickets to The Sphere, two nights at Montage Laguna Beach, private lessons with top golf professionals, and so much more up for bids. The final set of auction items was still being finalized at press time, but Executive Director Pat Zuk was able to give us a slight sneak preview of the expected 80-plus items.

Also up for bid is a a two-night stay in Las Vegas with tickets to The Sphere.

“A lot of the local courses that people here know and love are always so generous with auction items year after year, so you’ll see some of them offering rounds on the auction block. And we also have a lot of local artists who have donated their works to be bid on,” he said. “It’s very gratifying for us to have all of these people and organizations believe in us and want to support us.”

That support will continue when the auction ends and the tournament begins, returning to Belfair for the second year. As in years past, organizations all across the Lowcountry have stepped up to sponsor the event, with hole and tee sponsorships still available.

The entire event, both the tournament and the auction that precedes it, underscores the immense support that First Tee – The Lowcountry has always enjoyed from the community.

“It’s very gratifying how many people will join, especially seeing the wide-ranging variety of people and businesses who come together to help us out,” Zuk said. “This event accounts for probably 10 percent of what we take in, and the success of it is allowing us to keep expanding programs not only in Hilton Head and Bluffton, but into Ridgeland, Hardeeville, and north of the Broad River. It lets us serve more kids, and that’s the whole idea.”
