What is your idea of a perfect first date?
Some sort of adventure (like a visit to the Coastal Discovery Museum) or really good food!
What traits or characteristics are deal-breakers for you?
Smoking. And you have to dislike pickles so I can have yours.
How far into a relationship do you introduce your family to your new significant other?
I try and wait as long as possible because I don’t want them to fall in love with my family and then have to
take them away.
How do you think dating has changed since the dawn of the digital age?
I think it has changed drastically. It is very difficult to date with the invention of online dating. Everyone has too many options. I prefer the old-fashioned approach where you meet someone in person and, you know—court!
Dating someone you work with—acceptable or off-limits?
I think it is acceptable as long as the person is worth the risk and you go about it the right way. You need to find
your person somewhere!

My ideal first date location would be anywhere a small group of people could go and have an enjoyable time
conversing and getting to know each other—like here
at the bar at CQ’s in Harbour Town, for instance.
What traits or characteristics are deal-breakers for you?
Insincerity. Lack of a sense of humor. Being a teetotaler.
How far into a relationship do you introduce your family to your new significant other?
That’s a good question because it’s never happened. My children are scattered all across the country, so I guess it would be at a holiday time—but we’d have to see if the dating went that far.
How do you think dating has changed since the dawn of the digital age?
From looking back historically at the way people are getting together these days and the way people are meeting and getting married, I’d say it’s made a major impact on the art of dating.
Dating someone you work with—acceptable or off-limits?
I have a real fear of the Harvey Weinstein situation, so no!

Cheating. Lying. And someone who is unkind. That’s a big deal-breaker for me.
How far into a relationship do you introduce your family to your new significant other?
I’ve only ever dated people who knew my family, so that’s a hard one. I guess I would introduce them to my family after I prepped them on every individual in the family and made sure they had enough background knowledge so they were ready for that!
How do you think dating has changed since the dawn of the digital age?
I don’t date online, so it’s been really challenging for me to date in the real world and meet someone in an organic setting. People tend to not want to talk to each other in person or pick up the phone to call someone; they just hide behind apps and DMs.

Not at my work. Off-limits!

They have to love kids, have a good sense of humor and just sort of enjoy life. I like someone who is down to earth.

I wouldn’t wait too long. Probably within the first month.

I think it’s changed a lot. People don’t seem to want to try or put in the effort. There are so many choices out there, they feel they don’t really have to try. They don’t want to ask you out on a date; they would rather just message and text. There are no phone calls anymore—just texting. It’s so bad!
I wonder what it’s going to be like when my son grows up.

It depends on if it’s allowed. In some workplaces it’s not allowed.

It is quite impersonal. You lose a lot of interaction and a lot is left to guess with texting—the tone of a text.

Probably around six months … but really, it’s when you feel comfortable enough with them. It’s hard to put a time limit on that.

I think it’s easier. You can meet someone anywhere these days.

It’s gone downhill, that’s for sure! It’s hard to meet somebody in a real-life atmosphere instead of online
or a dating app (which I have never used).
