For Dr. David Reid, plastic surgery has always been about more than appearances. At its core, he says, it’s about transformation, confidence, and helping people feel like the very best version of themselves.
“I became a doctor because I love science and I like to fix things,” Dr. Reid said. “This isn’t work to me – it’s my passion.”
That passion has shaped the reputation of Hilton Head Plastic Surgery & MedSpa into one of the Lowcountry’s most respected cosmetic and reconstructive practices. Known for advanced surgical expertise, natural-looking results, and an unusually warm and personal patient experience, the practice has built lasting relationships that often feel more like family than business.

Dr. Reid specializes in a wide range of cosmetic procedures, but he is especially passionate about facial rejuvenation and body contouring surgeries for patients who have experienced massive weight loss.
“Body lifts and thigh lifts can truly change someone’s life,” he said. “These patients have worked so hard to transform themselves, and surgery helps complete that journey. Seeing their happiness and confidence afterward makes me happy too.”
Ask Dr. Reid what truly sets the practice apart, and he quickly points to the people around him. “I have a great team,” he said. “I get compliments all the time from patients and even other physicians about how impressed they are with my staff. They are genuinely caring and nice, and that’s what makes us the best.”

That team-centered culture starts the moment a patient walks through the door. Rather than simply handling appointments or answering phones, the staff at Hilton Head Plastic Surgery & MedSpa takes time to listen, connect, and build trust. “They become friends and family,” Dr. Reid said. “That relationship matters.”
Practice manager Lisa Croye has experienced that culture firsthand. What began as a part-time position four years ago unexpectedly grew into a career she now deeply loves.
“I initially came to Hilton Head Plastic Surgery with no expectations,” Croye said. “Now I’m the practice manager, and I absolutely love my job. I love coming to work and working with Dr. Reid.”
Croye described Dr. Reid as both highly skilled and refreshingly authentic. “He has a quirky sense of humor, but he’s genuine and a great surgeon,” she said. “When I talk to patients, it’s not a script. I’m not a salesperson. If I didn’t trust Dr. Reid, I couldn’t look people in the face. Patients can feel my sincerity.”

That honesty and compassion help create an environment where patients feel comfortable, safe, and understood – qualities that can be especially important in cosmetic medicine.
“People want a surgeon or injector who is going to make them feel better and make them feel safe,” Croye said. “That’s what he does. That’s what we do here.”
Dr. Reid is equally enthusiastic when speaking about the talented professionals who make up the practice. From longtime surgical staff to the front office team, he believes every person contributes to the experience patients receive.
“From my nurse Becky to my scrub tech Jenni, who’s been with me for more than 10 years, to Lisa and Tanya – we have an amazing team,” he said.
He is especially complimentary of nurse injector Tanya Mattison, whose dedication to continuing education and patient care has quickly earned trust and admiration.
“When Tanya came here, she immediately fit in,” Dr. Reid said. “Her skills and desire to constantly learn impress me daily. Patients love her, trust her, and she’s really that good.”
While Dr. Reid is widely respected for his surgical expertise, those closest to him say it is his balance of professionalism, humor, and humility that leaves the greatest impression.
Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Kathy, their three grown children, and five grandchildren, whom they “love to spoil.”
That sense of family clearly extends into the practice itself. At Hilton Head Plastic Surgery & MedSpa, patients are not treated like transactions. They are treated like people – with empathy, honesty, and genuine care.
In an industry often focused solely on outward appearance, that human connection might be the most beautiful transformation of all.
