Summertime has officially arrived on Hilton Head Island! With the warm sun gracing our shores, we’re excited to welcome both returning and first-time visitors. Many of these visitors will be staying in one of our many short-term rental properties, nestled within our beloved neighborhoods. With more than 7,000 short-term rentals on the island, we understand that this influx can bring about a variety of concerns for residents and visitors. That’s precisely why we launched our short-term rental program several years ago and why we continue to refine its focus on how to be good neighbors.
At the heart of our program is our commitment to balance, protecting our residential neighborhoods while supporting tourism. We strive to preserve our community’s quality of life, emphasizing that being a good neighbor truly matters. To help achieve this, we’re encouraging our visitors to maintain respectful noise levels, adhere to parking guidelines, and properly dispose of their trash. These simple steps can go a long way in ensuring that our neighborhoods remain serene for both long-time residents and visitors.
Our commitment extends to accountability as well, ensuring that short-term rental operators meet clearly defined standards. We aim to protect the integrity of our community while offering a welcoming environment for visitors. Alongside our informational initiatives, we remind everyone of the importance of responsible behavior during their stay.
To further enhance our efforts, we have established a new Short-Term Rental Rapid Response Hotline at 843-341-6864. This hotline allows our dedicated staff to address any issues related to noise, parking, or trash swiftly and effectively.
Quality of Life for All
Our dedication to quality of life is unwavering. Last fall, we made updates to our short-term rental regulations, ensuring that properties are safe and that neighborhoods remain secure and welcoming. Our goal is simple: We want to ensure our residents feel confident in the well-being and safety of their communities while also creating an enjoyable and welcoming experience for our visitors.
As we enjoy the summer season, I’d like to highlight an initiative that embodies the spirit of giving back: Second Helpings. This nonprofit organization runs a remarkable post-vacation food donation program for visitors. Instead of discarding unopened groceries, visitors can contribute to local families in need by dropping off nonperishable items at various donation bins across the island before heading home. Volunteers collect and distribute these donations to local pantries and soup kitchens. For more details, visit secondhelpingslc.org and find a location near you.
To our residents, thank you for your continued support as we work to preserve the character and charm of Hilton Head Island. To our visitors, we hope you have a fantastic stay and thank you for being thoughtful guests who contribute to the safety and vibrancy of our community.
Happy summer, everyone!
