There comes a time in everyone’s life, especially on Hilton Head Island, when we look at our staggering workload, our immense responsibilities, and the drudgery of our day-to-day life and say, “Screw this. I’m going to the beach.”

But how often do we ever actually do that? How often do any of us take advantage of the unique opportunity we have as locals to let the tide wash away the everyday world?

It’s that exact escapism that Jevon Daly and Kyle Wareham not only celebrate but encourage in their latest collaboration. “That Beach Has Got Your Name On It” is the latest video that Daly has partnered with this magazine to create, following on the heels of the massively popular “Hilton Head Looks Good on You.” The difference with this banger track is that Daly isn’t alone in getting a little silly for the camera.

“Pretty much from the moment we decided to work on that track together, we knew we had to do a video, too,” said Wareham, who produced the song – and plays Daly’s boss in the video. “I’ve been collaborating with Jevon for years already … but I haven’t been as much a part of the track as I am on this one.”

A successful performing musician in his own right, Wareham has been Daly’s long-time producer on tracks like “Sharks Are Our Homies,” “Mama Loggerhead,” and “Seagull Stole My Sandwich.”

“Kyle knows how to write songs, how to play drums, how to play bass. … He knows about the best ingredients to use to make a song great,” Daly said. “On this song, I don’t even play any instruments, because sometimes you just have to hand it over. Especially with somebody like Kyle, because he’s such an original.”

Wareham  and Daly run through the scene while Trevor Harden gets the shot.

Working together, the pair nurtured the song through several different iterations, from the country-fried version that Daly put together as a demo and into the more Caribbean vibe it exudes now. Interestingly, even though the plan wasn’t necessarily for Wareham to be in front of the camera, the notion that it would be a video wove its way into the song itself.

The resulting video balances madcap energy with

a heartfelt reminder that all of us are just minutes away from finally fulfilling that dream to drop everything and get some sand therapy.

Wareham and Daly show off their silly dance moves to amused beach goers.

“That’s just the nature of content nowadays. Every song is a chance to batch together some other stuff, so I’m always thinking about that – not as much as I was for this one, though,” Wareham said. “The ticking clock in the beginning, for example. That has no business being there except I could see that being in the video.”

Shout out to Dunes Real Estate for hosting our shoot!

That began a massive brainstorming session that soon involved CH2 publisher Maggie Washo. The concept of starting the video in an office, telegraphed by the ticking clock, was an early addition to the storyboard, with new elements like the inflatable unicorns and ukeleles being added as fast as Washo could secure them.

River catches a wave in the pink flamingo floatie.

Another early lock was that Trevor Harden of Harden Creative would once again direct.

The keen visual talents Harden brings to the table have long been part of this creative team, with several videos CH2 has produced for Daly under his direction. Always game to get his gear into all sorts of situations, from filming Daly emerging out of the May River in a shark costume to sending a drone out from the top of the Harbour Town Lighthouse, Harden’s ability to get the shot meshes well with Daly and Washo’s “Let’s plan the shot, then figure out if it’s possible later” approach.

Harden and Daly review a shot of Daly running to the beach.

“I like fun, creative things and they are fun, creative people,” Harden said. “Most of the commercial work I do doesn’t really have this kind of freewheeling creativity, with the outfits and the music. There aren’t a lot of inflatable unicorns in corporate offices.”

With “That Beach,” the creativity has produced a tale of beach-going dreams fulfilled. The offices of Dunes Real Estate stand in for the office space in the beginning, with Daly sporting a very un-Jevon shirt and tie, sans ballcap (“That bald spot’s got your name on it,” he joked) and Wareham showing off some impressive acting chops as the uptight boss. But the true fun begins when the boys hit the sand of Burke’s Beach for some real shenanigans.

Wareham’s character, who plays Daly’s boss, finally lets loose.

“It’s literally exactly the way I had envisioned it,” Wareham said.

The resulting video balances madcap energy with a heartfelt reminder that all of us are just minutes away from finally fulfilling that dream to drop everything and get some sand therapy. Daly’s silliness, Wareham’s crisp production, and Harden’s practiced eye have woven together more beautifully than ever.

Daly plays a frustrated office worker who leaves work for an unplanned beach day.

One of the first things people will notice (or not, depending on what kind of device on which they view it) is that this video is the first to be shot in vertical format, as opposed to the typical horizontal “letterbox.”

PLAY2

River and Kenna Wareham star in the video alongside their dad.

“I don’t think it’s a secret that social media is prioritizing vertical videos. We’ve seen that first-hand, when we’d bring in Trevor and do these beautiful videos, then got more views with silly Tik Toks we were doing,” Washo said. “So, we wanted to use his talent in a way that was going to perform better online.”

Regardless of the aspect ratio, the video is another beautifully shot celebration of Hilton Head Island’s beauty, interpreted through the music of Daly and Wareham, and ready-made to like and share across the world.

Next time you’re online (which is probably where you’re reading this) check it out, then go find whichever beach has your name on it.
