Accessible only by boat, Daufuskie Island is a gorgeous island just a short jaunt by water taxi from Hilton Head. Residents and visitors get around mostly by golf cart on unpaved roads. Must-do attractions include the Old Daufuskie Crab Company, the Bloody Point Lighthouse and Museum, Iron Fish Art Gallery and the Daufuskie Island Distillery. Post caffeine fix, head next door to Daufuskie Blues where you can watch the art of using indigo to hand dye luxury scarves and clothing. Take a beautiful blue bit of Daufuskie home with you from this cute women-owned shop.

A curious fox squirrel enjoys watching the fountain at Haig Point on a warm June day. Fox squirrels are abundant on Daufuskie Island, and are about twice the size of a common gray squirrel.
