We made it, y’all.
Survived through festival season, Easter Week (although it seemed like two, based on the crowds), the RBC Heritage, and all the local kids’ spring breaks and proms. Now it’s time for a month of calm and serenity before the heat picks up and the summer throngs arrive, eager to explore all that is the Lowcountry with their families this summer.
I, for one, am headed to Disney World for a few days of relaxation with my mom. Speaking of moms, there are a lot of them in this issue (but, of course). Our fashion spread stars WJCL’s Riley Miller and her sweet Baby Zsa Zsa, and was shot at a beautiful home in Spanish Wells. Generally, I find babies and children a tad hard to photograph – because they have minds of their own and don’t necessarily smile on demand like grown humans. Not this baby though. I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever met such a happy tiny tot. Cruise on over to page 44 to check out all the beautiful outfits available at our local boutiques.
Our special Mompreneurs issue returns after a two-year hiatus, with local supermoms giving tips on how they juggle it all and stay sane in the chaos. Flip to page 56 for that feature. In that same vein, head over to page 81 for our annual listing of Summer Camps for Kids.
It’s Cinco de Mayo month, so of course we have features on two of our local favorite Mexican eateries, Java Burrito (page 96) and Cactus Cantina (page 127). And don’t forget to grab your favorite tequila for the margs at Rollers – see their feature on page 114. Of course, we were photographing the entire Rollers team while they were in the throes of delivering massive amounts of liquor to Sea Pines Resort for Heritage Week. The timing couldn’t have been worse for them to host three photoshoots, but as you can see by their smiles in the pictures, they are true professionals.
This issue also highlights a few organizations doing good things in our community. Check out our story on the Pregnancy Center (page 72), Women in Philanthropy (page 68), and the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry (page 93).
Finally, Staying Power returns, with a special feature on the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina’s 30-year run of bringing quality entertainment to town – month after month.
We are already working hard on our Summer Fun content for June through August, from shark tooth finding expeditions and biking through Sea Pines to birding in Port Royal and beach bar hopping.
See y’all next month!
